The original letter
Dear Father Christmas,
It’s a busy time for you, so I will keep my letter brief.
I used to send Christmas cards with the words “Peace on Earth and Good Will to all Men”. It’s a quote from Luke 2:14. Most of the world has been wishing this for more than 2,000 years, but maybe we have been asking the wrong person because, quite frankly, He never answers this prayer.
So, I am asking you instead. Yesterday – on 6 December – it was St Nicholas Day – which is your special day. You were known as Nicholas the Wonderworker because you performed so many miracles, so this is the miracle I am asking you for. I don’t need any gifts this year (though a new moleskin notebook is always useful). I am simply asking for world peace.
Thanks for all the gifts in the past. I specially loved the Tressy doll you gave me when I was six, though I cut off her hair and it never grew back as promised on the box.
