On 26th February 2018, Letters Live, in partnership with NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER, will be making its first public appearance in the United States at the historic Ace Hotel Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles.
Letters Live celebrates the enduring power of literary correspondence by pairing together distinguished actors and persons of note to perform prescient and thematic letters from oftentimes the most unlikely of original correspondents. Letters Live has selected letters written by as varied a group of persons and characters as David Bowie, Marge Simpson, Mohandas Gandhi, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Kurt Vonnegut, Charlotte Bronte, Thomas J Hanks, Katherine Hepburn, Richard Burton, Patti Smith, Abraham Lincoln and Che Guevara, and paired them with performances from Benedict Cumberbatch, Gillian Anderson, Ian McKellen, Kylie Minogue, Russell Brand, Thandie Newton, Riz Ahmed, Juliet Stevenson, Tom Hiddleston, Sally Hawkins, Noma Dumezweni, Oscar Isaac, Stephen Fry, Jude Law, Nick Cave and Sir Ben Kingsley amongst many others.
The result is a show like no other and a truly unforgettable journey through time. Expect the unexpected, safe in the knowledge that Letters Live will make you appreciate the humble letter like never before.
Ticket prices range from $50–$200. All profits from tickets sales will be split and donated to Los Angeles-based non-profit organization 826LA–dedicated to supporting students with creative and expository writing skills–and Women for Women International, a non-profit humanitarian organization providing practical and moral support to female survivors of war.
Jamie Byng, Founder of Letters Live: “We’re very excited about our first public performance of Letters Live in Los Angeles and are delighted to be presenting it in partnership with NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER. Letters Live is a unique entertainment experience, one which combines great talent, remarkable letters, and awareness for important local and global charity work, all culminating in unforgettable evenings that celebrate the humble letter and its immense power. Bringing Letters Live to a city with such a rich tradition of performance and writers is a thrilling prospect and I am certain it is going to be a night to remember.”
Jeremy Langmead, Brand and Content Director of MR PORTER: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Letters Live for its first public event in the United States. Letters Live offers such a novel approach to theatre, mixing mediums and performers in such a quixotic and creative manner that no two performances are alike. I have been lucky enough to attend several performances in London, and so have experienced first-hand what a wild and beautiful evening Letters Live is. We’re honored to be helping introduce the show to like-minded audiences in Los Angeles as well as supporting these two great charities in the process.”
