Book Letters Live in support of the RNLI

Letters Live is set to return to London’s Royal Albert Hall later this year for a one-off show in aid of the RNLI on Thursday 12th December. This event forms part of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the RNLI this year.

Known for its engaging performances of remarkable letters from around the world and across history, Letters Live will create an unforgettable evening of storytelling, showcasing the power of the written word and humanity’s bond with the natural world.

Each Letters Live event is unique, as the entire list of performers is kept secret from the audience until the moment they take to the stage. Previous performers have included Benedict Cumberbatch, Carey Mulligan, Woody Harrelson, Jude Law, Colin Firth, Gillian Anderson, Ian McKellen, Mary J. Blige, Oscar Isaac, Thandie Newton, Tom Hiddleston, Stephen Fry, Olivia Colman, Laurence Fishburne, Riz Ahmed, Jake Gyllenhaal, Kylie Minogue, and more.

The letters read are extraordinary, varied and always memorable. Where some express anger or pain, others delight the audience with wisdom and humour. Over the years, letters written by iconic characters such as David Bowie, Mohandas Gandhi, Elvis Presley, Janis Joplin, Kurt Vonnegut, Charlotte Bronte, James Baldwin, Charles Dickens, Emily Dickinson, John Steinbeck, Madonna, Tom Hanks, Dorothy Parker and Che Guevara have been read, alongside hidden gems from lesser-known figures.

The RNLI has been saving lives at sea since it was founded in 1824 and, in that time, its volunteer lifeboat crews and beach lifeguards have saved more than 146,000 lives – equating to two lives saved every day for 200 years. Funded by voluntary donations, and with lifeboats crewed by trained volunteers, the RNLI is a truly unique rescue organisation. Today, the charity is saving more lives, in more ways, in more places than ever before. It operates 238 lifeboat stations around the UK and Ireland, including four on the River Thames and has seasonal lifeguards on around 240 beaches each summer.
